This collaborative activity includes numerous groups. Below, we have outlined some of the special interests and assistance associated with particular groups.

U.S. Department of Education

  • Directing IDEA reauthorization and the development of accompanying regulations
  • Supporting a change in LD identification models to a model more directly tied to youngsters' performance in the school curriculum
  • Integrating IDEA and NCLB viewpoints

Office of Special Education Programs

  • Providing liaison with SEA
  • Integrating the RRC activities with other RRC- and OSEP-sponsored initiatives
  • Organizing the jury review of nominated sites

University of Kansas

  • Identifying schools using RTI and recruiting their participation
  • Coordinating the reviews of model site nominations
  • Processing data on the effectiveness of districts' RTI model, including associated student outcomes and comparisons of outcomes for referred students in RTI schools with outcomes for students in otherwise similar schools that use other methods
  • Assisting RRCs and states in scaling up these models

Vanderbilt University

  • Assisting in identifying model sites
  • Addressing research design issues
  • Assisting with describing the implementation of RTI components (e.g., high-quality instruction, continuous progress measures, and setting cut scores on screening measures)
  • Specifying the criteria for designating RTI model sites

RRCs

  • establishing contacts within local school districts for potential sites
  • Recruiting potential school district and school participation
  • Collecting evaluation data
  • Providing technical assistance and dissemination activities regarding RTI components
